15th Anniversary of the Inscription of the Old Bridge on UNESCO World Heritage List
Today, July 15, 2020, we are marking 15 years since the Inscription of the Old Bridge on UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Old Bridge was listed on UNESCO World Heritage List, at the session in Durban, South Africa.
- Many were sceptics in Bosnia and Herzegovina, when we were going they did not want to join our delegation, because they were afraid of failure - said on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of inscription Mostar’s Mayor Ljubo Bešlić. The said delegation, which participated in the session of UNESCO experts in Durban in the Republic of South Africa, and at which it was decided to include the Old Bridge and the Old Town in the UNESCO World Heritage List, consisted of Mayor Bešlić, BiH Ambassador to UNESCO in Paris Željana Zovko, Director and Deputy Directors of PCU Rusmir Ćišić and Tihomir Rozić, expert advisor Amir Pašić and expert Ferhat Mulabegović.
This day will remain inscribed in the history of Mostar and BiH because it was the first inscription of monument from BiH on the UNESCO List.
The fact that the Republic of Italy, which has a large number of monuments under the protection of UNESCO, nominated 45 monuments that year, and only two could receive UNESCO's mark, testifies how great the competition for inscription on the UNESCO's List was.
